The Knolls Center Director – Joanna M. Kooistra, MS, BCBA
Since 2003, Joanna Kooistra has worked with individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and other developmental disabilities, as well as ADHD, anxiety disorders, learning disabilities, and behavior disorders. She has experience in many settings including: schools, clinics, residential programs, home programs, community-integration programs, behavioral health hospitals, and sheltered workshops.
Prior to entering into private practice, Joanna developed the 1st in-patient behavioral health hospital unit in the Midwest for children with ASD and psychological disorders.
Throughout her diverse experiences, it has become evident that the key factor to a child’s success is directly linked to motivation. Maintaining a child’s motivation and the use of natural reinforcers is Joanna’s primary area of interest.
